Thomas Benton Rollins

Thomas Benton Rollins, 83, a native of Poquoson and longtime resident of Va. Beach, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2012. He retired in 1980 from the U.S. Postal Service as a Postal Inspector, and went on to retire as a Captain in the Va. Beach Sheriff’s Dept. in 1992. Mr. Rollins graduated from Poquoson High School in 1945; was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Va. Beach and the Fellowship Sunday School class and United Methodist Men; a member of the Kempsville Ruritan Club; and a member of Poquoson Masonic Lodge #49, AF & AM. Mr. Rollins was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley Thomas “Bink” & Martha Ella Rollins; half-brother, Taylor Rollins; half-sister, Lena Rollins; brother, Dixie Rollins; and sister, Bernice Cook. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Nellie Gray Rollins; two daughters, Arlene Thompson & husband, Frank of Stafford, VA, and Anne Chowns & husband, Tommy of Va. Beach; three grandchildren, Wendy Isdell & friend, Randy Prince, Lara Isdell, and John Chowns & wife, Annie; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Monday, 1:00 PM, at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, by Rev. Christa Mercer. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, 11:00 AM, at Community United Methodist Church by Rev. Leroy Seibert. Memorial contributions may be made to Community United Methodist Church, 1072 Old Kempsville Rd., Virginia Beach, VA, 23464. Online condolences to www.claytorrollins.com .
