Gary Franklin Hewitt

Gary Franklin Hewitt, 73, passed away at home, with his family by his side, on Monday, November 25, 2019. A native of Newport News, born April 14, 1946, and a longtime Poquoson resident, Gary had a great love for his family and friends. He took great pride in all of his friendships. He was a self-made businessman who founded Hewitt Construction when he was only 19 years old. He was an avid car collector, carpenter, inventor and an entrepreneur who came from nothing to become the most amazing and accomplished man.
Preceded in death by his father, Jessie James Hewitt and his beloved Aunt, Elsie Mae Price, Gary is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Arlene Nock Hewitt; children, Ashleigh Hewitt-Firman (Eric), Sharon Mitchem (Terry), Tracie Hewitt, Amber Hewitt, Shawn Bundick (Rachel) and Scott Bundick; grandchildren, Emileigh, Todd, Casey, Josh, Cameron, Adrian, Morgan, Sierra Noel, Matthew, Anthony, Kyla and Kaiden as well as many other loving relatives and dear friends.
A celebration of Gary's life will take place 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10th at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 8 p.m. Condolences to claytorrollins.com.
