Gloria Dasovich Obituary

Gloria V. Dasovich, 92, of Yorktown, died at her home on Saturday, November 10th with family at her side. Gloria was born on March 15, 1926 in Bayonne, NJ. After high school she attended business school and was working at the Bayonne Shipyard when she met Mike, who was an Ensign in the Navy Supply Corps. They were married in Bayonne on April 16, 1950 and began their life together as a Navy couple, traveling to many duty stations and enjoying every minute of travel in and around each unique city. Gloria loved to travel, read, cook and entertain, always the perfect hostess. She was very active in her community, Officer Wives Clubs, PTA and church activities. Son Michael was born in Wiesbaden Germany and daughter Gigi was born in Norfolk, VA. After Mike retired in 1975, as a Navy Captain, in Newport RI, they settled into the Aquidneck Island community where Gloria successfully entered the real estate business and eventually managed a large real estate office for several years. Gloria maintained her community ties on the island for many years, even after Mike died in 1992, remaining fast friends with her close group of work friends, "the Flamingo Girls". Gloria was finally convinced after a very snowy winter to head south and join family in the Yorktown area. She easily settled into her home and lifestyle here and was able to enjoy family and meeting new friends. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Captain Michael Dasovich USN Supply Corps (Retired); parents, Anthony and Faye Vatalaro; and sisters, Lorraine and Lucille. She is survived by her brother, Anton Vatalaro of Lebanon, NJ; son, Michael (Marie) Dasovich of Yorktown; daughter, Gigi Dasovich of Lakeland Ranch FL; and grandchildren, Kelley (Chris) Wolff of San Diego, CA, Tracy (Sam) Jennings of Newport News, VA, Nicholas and AmeliaBelle Dasovich of Lakeland Ranch FL. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren who made her smile each and ever day, Connor, Colin, Marisa and Maura Wolff and Lilah and Whitt Jennings. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Newport News with a funeral mass by Reverend John David Ramsey to follow at 6:00 PM. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society  or a charity of your choice . Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband on a date to be determined. Service and care provided by Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, VA.
