Guy C. Amory, Jr., 86, a native and lifelong resident of Newport News, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Guy was a graduate of Warwick High School Class of 1950 and attended Virginia Tech and Rollins College. He worked for Newport News Shipbuilding as an engineering designer and later was involved in many local business ventures. Guy grew up on the James River and developed a love for the water and being outdoors at an early age. He loved to hunt, fish, and travel. Guy was a Mason, Shriner and member of First United Methodist Church, Newport News.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Guy C. Amory, Sr.; and his son, Braden Compton-Amory. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne J. Amory; daughters, Dr. Dawn T. Hunt (Bill), and Mary Eleanor Compton; son, Wilbur J. Taylor, III; grandson, William S. Hunt, Jr.; sister Beverly A. Monk (Norman); and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Guy’s life will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, Nov. 8, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson led by Rev. Elizabeth Lutz. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, with Masonic Rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to Shriners Hospital for Children, Children’s Burn Unit, 3602, 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, KY, 40508.
