Hugh McDonald Wornom, born August 2, 1922 in Poquoson, Virginia, passed peacefully on December 29, 2018 at Dominion Village Assisted Living in Poquoson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Gibbs Wornom and Etta Carmines Wornom; one brother, W. Edgar Wornom; two sisters, Elsie M. Wornom and Eloise W. Henderson. He is survived by five brothers, Boyce C. Wornom (Dorothy) of Richmond, Wendell G.Wornom (Betty), J. Gerald Wornom (Nancy), both of Poquoson, E. Ray Wornom of Richmond, and Stephen F. Wornom (Marie-Jo) of France.
Hugh received his bachelor’s degree at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio and taught private piano lessons all over the Peninsula. He served as a choir director and organist at an episcopal church in Hampton and was a World War II veteran who served under General Patton.
Hugh’s greatest love was archaeology and family history. He was very active and very well known in the local archaeology community.
A private service will be held for family and friends.
