Jane "Dee Dee" Ethel Newman Abbott

Jane "Dee Dee" Abbott, 85, born April 6, 1921 in Chicago, died Sunday, September 24, 2006. Nicknamed Dee Dee by her brother, she
was the daughter of the late Ethel and Philip H. Newman, I, of Wilmette, IL. She was married over 50 years to Robert E. Abbott, Sr., who
died in 1999.
Dee Dee graduated from New Trier High in Wilmette, attended the University of Arizona, and, in 1943, received a B. A. degree in Psychology
from Northwestern University. She was a lifelong member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, and was an active member of Daughters of the American
Revolution. She was a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, Tabb.
Dee Dee is survived by two sons, Robert Abbott, Jr. & wife, Peggy of Austin, Texas, and Philip Chase Abbott of West Lafayette, Ind.; a
daughter, Diane J. A. Monach & husband, W. Reynolds of Yorktown; a brother, Philip H. Newman, II and wife, Pat of Gurnee, Ill.; seven
grandchildren, Jennifer A. Floyd & husband, Kenneth of Dallas, Christopher Abbott & wife, Sterling of Dallas, Laurel Reitman & husband, Jeff
of San Francisco, Sally Abbott of Boston, and Bruce, Keith, and Grace Allyce Monach, all of Yorktown; and one great-grandchild, Parker Floyd of
Dallas. She always took a great interest in her children and grandchildren, nurturing their development and taking pride in her family's achievements.
She had many friends in the Hampton Roads area, having moved here in 1988.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 28th, 7:00 PM, at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, by Dr. Michael Condrey. The
Sarah Circle will provide a reception in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. A burial service will be held Friday, 12:00 Noon,
next to her husband at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 6315 N. Center Dr., Suite 233, Norfolk, VA, 23502. The family
would like to thank the nurses and staff of Warwick Forest Evergreen Unit, and Riverside Regional Convalescent Center.
