Lorena Arnillas Wornom went home to be with the Lord on August 6th, 2019 in Virginia Beach. She was born to Pedro and Chiqui Arnillas on February 16th, 1965. Lorena is survived by her husband Robert, children Daniella and Joseph, mother Chiqui Arnillas, siblings Marie Colchao, Pedro Arnillas, Beatriz Arnillas, Pilar Friedman, Eduardo Arnillas, and Rosana Bergquist. Lorena was predeceased by her father Pedro Arnillas.
Lorena was born in Lima, Perú. She went to Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and taught preschool for two years before going to George Washington University in Washington DC, where she received her Master’s degree in the School of Education.
After graduating she taught second grade in Arlington Public Schools. She met Robert at church and was married July 8th, 1995. Five years later the family moved near Virginia Beach.
Lorena was an amazing teacher who loved her students and fellow teachers. She taught in Arlington County, Denbigh Christian Academy, Veritas Christian Academy, Christopher Farms, and Alanton Elementary School. She also home schooled her children when they were young. She was the first Spanish Immersion teacher at Alanton Elementary and president for the Virginia Dual Language Educators Network (VADLAN). She was also teacher of the year at Alanton ES.
Lorena loved the Lord and attended the following churches: Parroquia Nuestra Senora del Carmen (Carmelitas), Springfield Bible Church, McLean Bible Church, Sovereign Grace/ Redeemer Church, Greenbrier Church, & Rivers of Living Water Church. Lorena served the Lord and others in many ways. Every Saturday morning for years she visited the Virginia Beach jail where she handed out books and prayed with the women.
Lorena will be forever loved and remembered by her husband, children, mother, siblings, extended family, friends, and students. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 17th 2 pm at Rivers of Living Water Church, 1001 Indian Lakes Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
