Ronald L. Belknap (born November 28, 1959) left this earth on January 18, 2019 to be with his mother, Elizabeth Belknap (January 2005), father, Warren Belknap (January 2008) and his son, Michael (February 2017).
Ron was employed by HRSD from January 1983 until retirement in July 2011. He rose through the ranks from Treatment Assistant to Plant Operator and Maintenance Operator, and taught classes at HRSD's Apprenticeship School. He was promoted to Lead Operator in 1989, Maintenance Chief Operator in 1996, then Operations Chief Operator in 2003 until his retirement in 2011.
Ron next accepted the position of Utilities Technician with the City of Poquoson in August 2012 until his retirement in February 2018, due to disability issues with his back. He went back to work for the City as a Part-time employee from July 2018 until he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer and Metastatic Brain Cancer.
Ron wasn't always the best son or sibling he could have been, but tried to do a better job as a husband and father to his Special Needs child. He performed Public Service Work treating waste water in the Hampton Roads region before his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sandra D. Belknap of Poquoson; an older brother, Robert W. Belknap (Linda) of Warner Robins, GA; a younger sister, Betty Virok of Virginia Beach; and nephews, Robert Belknap Jr., Jonathan Belknap, and Joshua Black.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 26, 3-5:00 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and afterwards at Ron & Sandy’s home. Inurnment will be at a later date. Online condolences to claytorrollins.com.
