Mrs. Ruth Estella Chapman, 90 – Mrs. Chapman, a Native of Washington, DC, S.E.; and longtime resident of Hampton, Virginia passed away on, Sunday, December 22, 2019 with her family by her side. Mrs. Chapman was a homemaker and a dedicated wife of 53 years; loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was employed as a clerk typist at Acacia Life Insurance Company for more than 10 years. She was a member of Keep the Promise Ministries of Poquoson where her son, Pastor Buddy Chapman, resides as senior pastor. She was also a loyal Air Force wife and dependent for many years, and also supported her husband, Conard, through his career at NASA Langley Research Center. She was a member of the National Honor Society, and an award winning typist and stenographer. Her favorite past-time was visiting with friends and family and caring for her dog, Susie. She also enjoyed viewing scrapbook memories and rooting for the Washington Redskins. Ruth was preceded in Rest by her husband, Conard Lee Chapman; her Father, Benjamin Clyde Cater; her Mother, Mary Estella Cater; and her Brother, Clyde Ernest Cater. Left to cherish her memory are: Her Daughter, Donna Lee Chapman French Witt and husband Mark; Son, Buddy Lee Chapman and wife Denise; Grandsons: Matthew Robert French and wife Christina; Thomas Robert Guglielmo and wife Alexa; Jesse Lee Chapman; Granddaughter: Savannah Lee Witt; Great-Grandchildren: Jordan, Kaycie, Brylin and Averie Donald; Zyllah French; and Adelaide Guglielmo. Sister-in-law, Pearlene Bush and husband Bob and son Steven Bush; Nephews: Michael Cater, Chuck Sutz and wife Debbie; aunt, Ida Mae Varney; and a host of other extended family, friends and relatives. The family would like to thank all medical personnel (especially the Stroke Care team) at Sentara Hospital-Hampton, Staff and therapists at Sentara Rehab Center, the Sentara Hospice Services team, and Visiting Physicians for their quality care. Special thanks to long time caregiver and friend, Natalie Clark and caregiving assistants Kim Shook, Angie Harrington, and Danette Zasimowich for their compassionate loyalty. Much gratitude also to the many prayerful friends and respite volunteers from Keep the Promise Ministries—especially Tania and Tim Benedetto. Love to all family and friends who loved Ruth.
A Celebration Life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Keep The Promise Ministries, 402 Wythe Creek Road, Poquoson, VA 23662 by Pastor Buddy Chapman. A reception will immediately follow at Keep The Promise Ministries.
