Alma Hopkins Moore, age 98, passed away on May 16, 2021. Born on October 29, 1922, Alma was a life-long resident of Poquoson and a member of Emmaus Baptist Church where she greatly enjoyed her many friends and her Women of the Word Sunday school Bible study group.
Alma enjoyed her family including her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always looked forward to regular family gatherings. She was an experienced bridge player and had many groups of friends that played together regularly. Alma liked to travel, she was an avid reader, and she raised beautiful flowers at her home. She enjoyed the simple things like a good dessert but not chocolate, her beautiful view from Breezy Point, and time spent with people she loved.
She was a strong and independent woman, and the family greatly appreciates the many wonderful, dedicated caregivers that allowed her to stay independent in her own home.
She was preceded in death by her mother Katherine Hopkins Paige; father, Benjamin Melvin Hopkins; her sister Mildred Hopkins; her uncles George Engelhard and John Engelhard, and her grandson Jerome Moore.
She is survived by her sons Wayne Moore and wife Ann, Benny Moore, and Barry Moore and wife Debbie. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held at Emmaus Baptist Church, 814 Yorktown Road, Poquoson, Virginia on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 11:00 AM. A private burial will precede the service. The family will be at the home of Wayne Moore.
