Ann Poindexter Bowie

Ann P. Bowie, 84, of Newport News, VA. entered into eternal life on February 20, 2021. Ann was born and raised in the farming community of Guthrie, Kentucky.

She graduated from Guthrie High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Austin Peay University with minors in Business and English. She also earned her Master of Arts in Social Sciences with a minor in Business from George Peabody University.  

Ann retired as a supervisor from the City of Hampton Department of Social Services after more than 20 years of service.  Ann enjoyed attending local military concerts, symphonies and Southampton Woman's Birthday Club. She was actively involved in Concerned Denbigh Citizens for many years.  She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She attended many of their sporting events. Ann was recently blessed with two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, William Lawson Poindexter, and Mary Alice Nabb Poindexter; brother, Bill Lawson Poindexter, Grandmother Claudia Nabb, Aunt & Uncle Edward & Dorothy Benton; and daughter-in-law, Sheron Thomas. Ann leaves to mourn her passing, but celebrate her life, son Mike Thomas (Kim), daughter Debby Thomas Oakley (Ronnie); along with grandchildren, Josh Thomas (Katie), Casey Oakley (Alex) and Mitch Oakley (Savannah), as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Colby, Beckham, and Ryleigh; in addition to her nephews and extended family members.  

Ann will be laid to rest with her parents in a celebration of life to be held November 20, 2021 at the Edgewood Cemetery in Trenton, Kentucky at 2:00 p.m.

The family would like to sincerely thank her wonderful neighbors, friends, nurses and doctors that were there for her with love. In lieu of flowers, expressions of condolences can be made to the American Cancer Society.
