Arthur "Artie" John Trost, Jr. Artie was born on October 21st, 1928. Growing up in Queens, NY, he was the only child of Arthur Trost, Sr. and Annabelle Trost (nee Shultz). When he was in his late teens, Artie received his GED. For a few years before joining the Marine Corp, Artie worked as Head Stable Boy in Forest Park and worked horse farms in Connecticut. Artie felt a call to help his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Through dedication and hard work, he made the rank of Drill Sergeant by 1956. In 1950, Artie married his childhood sweetheart, Lucille Plant. After seven years they were blessed with their only son, Arthur Robert in 1957. In 1959, Artie started at Grumman Aerospace, where his work helped build the LEM spacecraft, F14, and X29 aircrafts. Artie continued to work at Grumman until he retired in 1990. When he retired, Artie continued his passions in woodcarving, hunting, and model building which led him to make many beautiful pieces and decoys which he displayed proudly around his home. Artie became a grandfather for the first time in 1981, his first grandchild would carry the name Arthur Richard in honor of both his grandfathers. Starting in 1983, he would be blessed with 3 more grandchildren. Frederick James (1983), Christopher John (1985), and Sara Elizabeth (1988). Sadly, in 1989 his beloved wife passed due to medical complications. Artie had her laid to rest in Calverton Veterans Cemetery in Long Island, NY. In 2003 Mikayla Eve, Artie's first great- grandchild was born. A decade later, two more would follow; Evelyn Rose (2015) and Hunter Riley (2019). Artie moved from Long Island, NY to Newport News, VA due to health concerns and to be closer to his son and family.
