Barbara Jane Moore was called home to be with the Lord on December 20, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eva Riggins Palmer and Joseph Benjamin Palmer, her loving husband of 47 years William Herbert "W.H." Moore Jr., her sister Nancy Palmer Emerson and brother-in-law Robert Carol Emerson, her sister-in-law Linda Moore Ridenhour, her sister-in-law Jean Moore Shaw, and brother-in-law Asa Shaw Jr. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Hibbs (Tom), her three grandchildren Andrew Hibbs (Blair), Megan Hibbs (Dane), and Hannah Hibbs, and her great granddaughter Charlie Jane, who carries her namesake.
Barbara, known as Jane to friends and Mo to her family, was a native of Tabb, VA. She attended grade school in Poquoson, VA before graduating from York High School in 1959. She went on to enroll in Obici Nursing Program, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1962, at which point she began her career as a nurse at Riverside Hospital. She married her husband, W.H., in September of 1963. Shortly after marrying, W.H. and Jane were stationed in Germany where they spent a few years before returning home where she became a homemaker.
Jane was a loving parent to Barbara and grandmother to her grandchildren. She kept her grandchildren in their early years, fostering an environment where education was valued. Jane could always be seen in the bleachers cheering at sporting events, of which there were many, attending school recitals, graduations, and countless family functions and holidays. Jane enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, living by the water, and her family. As a devout follower of Jesus, she instilled faith in the Lord in her family, and represented His values and teachings.
The family would like to thank the staff at Dominion Village in Poquoson and Riverside Hospital for their care and providing comfort. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Samaritan's Purse in Jane's honor.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, with the family receiving friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home. The burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.
