Benjamin Michael Richard, 36, departed this life on September 19, 2022. Ben celebrated his 36th birthday on September 14. Growing up an “Air Force Brat”, he developed a love of both travel and service to his country. From his first trip to Disney World, Ben fell in love with theme parks and knew he wanted to work for one. This dream became a reality when he worked for Busch Gardens as a supervisor. Ben always reached out to his siblings to include them in the things he loved and was always willing to let them tag along with his friends. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 4 years active duty followed by 12 years in the Virginia Air National Guard as a technical sergeant. Ben’s passions ranged from hiking, board games, video games, comic books, movies, theme parks, Disney, to coffee, trying new foods like “fancy” cheeses, drinks, and new restaurants, and spending time with his family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, sometimes the only helping hand – assisting both siblings with major moves.
Ben is reunited with his paternal grandfather, Roger Richard and his maternal grandfather, Armando Testa.
His memory is cherished by his parents, Vincent and Susan Richard; sister, Rebecca; brother, Timothy and sister-in-law, Megan; paternal grandmother, Joan Richard; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Testa; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Kateri Tekawitha Catholic Church. Please no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Air Force Aid Society.
Ben was his family’s biggest cheerleader and #1 fan. Nothing made Ben more proud than being a son, brother, Airman, and friend; and nothing makes his family more proud than Ben. He will be loved, cherished, celebrated, and missed forever.
