Betty Gottschall, 70, was called home Monday, November 1, 2021. Born Oct. 13, 1951, Betty was a resident of Poquoson and a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. She retired from Civil Service where she spent more than 35 years working in the Military Installation Contracting Command. During her career, she served as a Contract Specialist, a Supervising Contracting Officer, and the Small Business Utilization Specialist. She enjoyed her work and made many lifelong friendships.
Betty liked spending time with her family, serving at her church, and going to movies with her friends. Known as Gia to her grandchildren, she loved watching band concerts, attending sporting events, having sleepovers and game nights, and taking them bowling and on other fun adventures. She cherished her cats, grand-cats, and grand-dogs.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Pearl Evans, and her sister, Marilyn Thomas, and mother-in-law, Gertie Gottschall. She is survived by her daughter, Bethany Gottschall; grandchildren, Caroline Smith, Brendan Smith, and Abigail Smith; sister, Nellie Freeman; sister-in-law, Patricia Gottschall; brother-in-law, W.A. Thomas, many nieces and nephews, and cats, Tilly and Pepper.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, November 5th at Parklawn Memorial Park and a Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6th at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Newport News.
