C. Wayne Hudson Obituary

Chapman Wayne Hudson, 87, of Poquoson, went to be with the Lord on June 13, 2023, surrounded by his family. Wayne was born at home on April 16th, 1936, to William Roy and Lillian Peak Hudson in Nathalie, Virginia. After Wayne graduated from Halifax County High School in 1954, he went on to study mechanical engineering, earning a bachelor’s degree at Virginia Tech. In 1958, Wayne then graduated from college.

In the same year, Wayne joined the Army and was stationed in Fort Knox. Following his service, he worked as a mechanical engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Norfolk until 1964. Wayne worked as the Chief of Infrastructure Operations at HQ Tactical Command and HQ Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base from 1964 to 2001. From 1975 to 1979, he transferred to HQ USAF (Pentagon) where he acted as the Director of Environmental Division working base closure NEPA issues and other environmental initiatives – then returned to HQ ACC Langley. He retired from civil service in October 2001. Unable to stay still, Wayne went to work for PBS&J/Adkins as a Senior Federal Client Manager Design. He retired from that position in April 2011.

In 1960, Wayne married the love of his life, June “Junebug” Ward in Portsmouth, Virginia. Wayne and June went on to have three children, Melody, Keith, and Morris. Wayne and June demonstrated their love for each other and their children daily. They were devout in their faith and ensured that their children were in church whenever the doors were opened.

The most important things to Wayne were God, his “Junebug”, and his family. Through the years, he made sure that all his family was well cared for and loved. Similarly, his love for his “Junebug” was endless and spoke often about reuniting with her Heaven. He made sure that the family took vacations to the Outer Banks for most of his life where he would take morning and evening walks with his grandchildren who he lovingly called “chipmunks”. Other things that brought joy to Wayne’s life were serving the Lord in the capacity of Deacon and Sunday school teacher in the church, traveling, gardening and yardwork, tennis, golf, and fishing. He was a member of the ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out) and enjoyed his Wednesday morning breakfasts around town with his friends from the club.

Wayne is reunited with his loving wife of 56 years, June Hope Ward Hudson; parents, William and Lillian Hudson; brother, John Marshall Hudson.

His memory is cherished by his children, Melody Hudson (Steven Henke), Keith Hudson, Morris Hudson (Adriana Tello); grandchildren, Christina Morgan (Hugh), Timothy Morgan (Kelcee), Nicholas Hudson, Gabriel Hudson, Stephanie Rodriguez (Josh); great-grandchildren, Alexas Thomas, Annabell Morgan, Amira Morgan, Paxton Noznesky, Jake Rodriguez, Baylin Morgan; former granddaughter-in-law, Kristina Morgan; former grandson-in-law, Alan Noznesky; and several loving nieces and nephews.
