Calvin “Lee” Gibbs, 46, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024. A native of Poquoson and longtime resident of Yorktown, Lee was born November 28, 1977, to Hopie E. “Pop” Gibbs, Sr. and Debra Ann “MawMaw” Gibbs. Lee shared his love of sports with coach and Dad, Hopie, growing up wrestling and playing football and baseball. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting but looked at animals in a different light after getting the family dog, Buju, who never left his side.
Lee is remembered as a kind-hearted, easy, going person who made friends anywhere he went. One of Lee’s proudest moments was being a father to Isaiah, Mason and Ella. During the week he was a hard worker but loved to spend time with family and friends. He took the family on trips to Martinsville, making sure to mark each visit in the old oak carved with his and Linda's initials.
He was a lifetime commercial waterman and a member of Harbor Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Robert Calvin Gibbs; great-uncle Calvin Gibbs, Sr., and grandmother, Edna Kyle, he is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Linda Lee Gibbs; children, Isaiah Louis Lassiter, Mason Lee Lassiter, and Ella Grace Gibbs; parents, Hopie "Pop" and Debra Ann “MawMaw” Gibbs; siblings, Hopie Gibbs, Jr. and Chris Gibbs; grandmother, Helen Gibbs; niece, Alexus Denise Gibbs; nephews, Christopher “Kaefan” Gibbs, Robert “Nathan” Gibbs and William David Gibbs, as well as many other loving relatives and dear friends.
A celebration of Lee's life will take place 3 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Claytor Rollins with a visitation immediately following until 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made directly to Claytor Rollins Funeral Home or Go Fund Me for Lee Gibbs to help offset funeral expenses.
