Captain Harrell Moore Obituary

Lester “Captain Harrell” Moore crossed the bar on June 23, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born on June 8, 1945, and a lifelong resident of Poquoson, Virginia, Captain Harrell was a proud Poquoson waterman and spent much of his life on the water.

Growing up in Poquoson, he made lifelong friendships playing baseball at Messick Ball Field and shooting pool. He had a love for duck and bird hunting, old Western shows and movies, and going dancing with the love of his life. He also earned a reputation as the family's own weather forecaster. Long before anyone checked an app or turned on the news, they always called him. Whether a storm was headed their way or just going to blow over, he always seemed to know. Above all else, family was the center of his world, and there was nothing he treasured more than the people he loved.

Captain Harrell is reunited with his parents, Lester Harrell Moore, Sr. and Delsie Leon Moore; and his brothers, Billy Moore and Terry Neil Moore.

His memory is cherished by his beloved wife of 60 years, Frances A. Moore; children, Melisha Robbins (Chris), Stevie Moore (Emily) and Kevin Moore; his grandchildren, Lauren (Mike), Kyle (Brittany), Katie (Sean), Sadie,  Josie, Gordon, Gavin, and Madisyn; his great-grandchildren, Harper, Karlie, River, Gunner, Cooper, and Phoebe; and siblings, Daisy Grose, Jimmy Moore, and Chris Moore; and many extended family members, lifelong friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

A visitation will be held at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Volunteer Fire Department or the National Kidney Foundation in Captain Harrell's memory.
