Carey Harrell, 79, a lifelong Poquoson resident, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at home surrounded by family.
Carey was well known and respected in the area for his work as an electrical contractor. He owned and operated a father/son electrical business for many years and took great pride in his work. He was also an avid fisherman, gardener, NASCAR fan, skilled craftsman, and animal lover. He served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lola Moore Harrell. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Susie Cross Harrell; son, Bryan Harrell (Rachel); daughter, Michelle Harrell; grandson, Luke Harrell; aunt, Anne M. Lowery; sister-in-law, Patti Cross Roberts (John); nephew, Bryce Roberts (Danae); niece, Perry Roberts Harris (Eric); 4 great-nieces/nephews; as well as beloved extended family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Carey’s caregivers at Personal Touch Hospice, Dr. Scott Kruger and staff at Virginia Oncology, and Marybeth Morgan and staff at TPMG Grafton for their care and support. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 27th at the Poquoson Yacht Club from 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Poquoson Museum or PAWS (Poquoson Animal Welfare Sanctuary).
