Charles "Chip" Sibbers Obituary

Charles Wesley (Chip) Sibbers (91) entered into the gates of Heaven on Friday, February 2nd, 2024.  His soul is now with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Chip was born on March 29, 1932, in Rockville Centre, Long Island, NY. He lived in a nearby town, Baldwin, until he was 21 years old. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1949. While there, he was an outstanding athlete. He was named Best Wrestler in his weight class on Long Island and named on the Best Soccer Team on Long Island. He graduated from Princeton University with a Sociology degree. While there, he was on the wrestling and soccer teams. After Graduating in 1953, he served in the Marine Corps as a Rifle Platoon Leader and Tactical Air Observer. He then attended the Harvard Graduate School of Business, graduating in 1957. He worked for NASA in Hampton, VA for 30 years, where he held two non-technical supervisory and managerial positions. Chip then retired in 1993. For many years Chip was actively involved in civic and business-related activities including the Lions Club. Chip Served as Chairman of the Council on Ministries of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Poquoson and taught Sunday School for many years.  He served on the Board of Directors of the TV program PBS and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. Chip served as Chairman of the Poquoson School System Board of Directors.

Chip was preceded in death by his father, Mr. and Mrs. William W. Sibbers; and brother, William (Bill) Sibbers.

Chip is survived by Jeannine, his beloved wife for 66 years; their three children, Linda (Jack) Hunt, Don Sibbers (Della Gehrmann), and Lisa (Todd) Bowden; grandchildren Leeanne (Charles) Ratcliff, Royce Bowden (Emily Greenberg), and Jeannine Bowden (Colton Ketchum); great grandson, W. McRae Ratcliff; brother-in-law, Don (Liz) Ward; sister-in-law, Anna Marie (Gary) McLain along with all the nieces, nephews, Zoe and Sabian (Nicha) Gehrmann.

Special thanks to all who have loved, cherished, and cared for Chip. We are sincerely grateful for your thoughts, prayers, and support. A special thanks also to Trinity United Methodist church family.

Chip wants his beloved family not to grieve his passing since he is now in a wonderful place and someday, they will all be together again.

A celebration of Chip’s life will take place at 2 pm Friday, February 9th at Trinity United Methodist Church. Friends and Family are welcome for a gathering at the family’s home immediately after the ceremony.
