Darlene Kay Hunt, 79, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 16, 2026.
Darlene was born on December 17, 1946 in Venango County, Pennsylvania to Purvis (Pete) and Geraldine (Gerry) Wimer, both of whom predeceased her. The family also included a brother who predeceased her (Delbert “Pete” Wimer) and two sisters who survive her (Margaret Allaman, née Wimer, and Susan Thompson, née Wimer).
At the age of 20, Darlene married Duane Ward and departed Pennsylvania to spend 24 years as an Air Force wife. During its tenure, Darlene and Duane’s union produced two children (Dara Beaulieu, née Ward, and Dirk Ward) and subsequently two grandchildren (Dean Everitt Ward and Dace Elliott Ward).
Darlene met her devoted husband, John Hunt, at church in the mid-1990s. The two married in 1998 and enjoyed a too-short 28 years before her passing. Darlene’s marriage to John made her a step-mother of three (John Hunt Jr, Paul Hunt, and Helen DeCoursey, née Hunt), step-grandmother of three (Sumer Hunt, Caitlin Kuhfal, née DeCoursey, and Brandon DeCoursey), and step-great-grandmother of four more (Madison Hunt, Cori Hunt, Ryleigh Kuhfal, and Jaxon Kuhfal).
Darlene was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over fifty years. She was also faithful to her church, the Tabernacle UMC in Poquoson. She made a life and a living baking cakes, arranging flowers and scrapbooks, caring for children, and managing medical practices.
Darlene had class: class in her style of dress, class in her manner of speech, and class in her personal etiquette. She traveled the world and enjoyed all kinds of gatherings, taking her class along with her.
A service for Darlene will be held at 1:00 PM on March 21, 2026, at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Poquoson, with a reception to follow.
Darlene’s family asks that you not send flowers. Instead, please make a donation to Tabernacle United Methodist Church, located at 831 Poquoson Ave, Poquoson, VA 23662.
