David (DW) Wayne Williams was called home on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. He was 63 years old. DW was born on July 24,1961 the son of Betty Wilhelm Williams and the late Robert Leslie Williams, Sr.
DW, as he was known most of his adult life, was a force to be reckoned with. He was a jokester (like his dad), a rock in times of need, a leader, a mentor, and a warrior as he fought to stay here with us. He was a great and loyal husband, a better father and an even better Paw-Paw. A trustworthy friend to many. He was as honest as the day is long, even if the truth hurt. His journey in life took us down lots of roads (he especially loved the dirt ones because that meant he was deer hunting with his buddies). He had many special relationships because of his love for hunting. He loved looking for a trophy, he enjoyed the camaraderie that he and his friends had. These were special and cherished bonds. His love of the sport was handed down by his father. He said that was when he could feel his dad with him, a special bond for sure. He especially loved it when the kids were at hunting camp. That was about the only time I witnessed him having patience because he wanted to pass on his knowledge and love of hunting on to future generations. DW also loved to play cornhole, he never passed up an opportunity to get in a game. He could spend hours playing.
DW was a graduate of Alleghany County High School, class of 1979. That is where he played football, and this is when he realized what "teamwork" meant. He left Alleghany County in 1980 and took a job at Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, VA where he dedicated 43 years of loyalty. He strived to be a leader and became a supervisor. DW always said that the title was hard for him, because he would continue working the job with his team. He was a hands-on supervisor. He had a great group of friends throughout his shipbuilding career. DW was most proud of seeing his team succeed. He finished his career in the PUAF (X- 73) after working through the X-43 nuclear mechanics. He was thrilled to receive a Model of Excellence Award in 2020 for the nuclear propulsion.
