Deanna Caroline Mason

Deanna C. Mason, 81, went to be with the Lord, January 29, 2023. A native of Tremont, Illinois, Deanna was born August 25, 1941, to the late Alphus Mosley and Eva Bennett Mosley and she was a resident of Poquoson for the past 60 years.

Her family was always her #1 priority. She was “Mammy” to so many making a lasting impact on their lives, and her passing will leave a void no one else can ever fill. So much of the good in us was because of her.

Deanna retired from the Newport News Sherriff’s office after 27 years and later volunteered for 18 years at the Parish Thrift Store (or as her late husband Tommy called it “The Pentagon.”) She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW of the US # 1083.

Deanna had a special place in her heart for her fur-babies.

Preceded in death by her husband, Ralph "Tommy" Mason, Jr.; daughter, Tracie-Jo Campbell and parents, Alphus and Eva Mosley, Deanna is survived by her son, Willie Dallas Campbell (Judy); grandchildren, Christina C. Backus (Wesley) and William Campbell; great-grandchildren, Brayden Backus and Jayce Backus; special granddaughter, Stephanie Shaw; and she was a special Mammy to Mackenzie Holloway and Cody Mitchell.

A celebration of Deanna’s life will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2nd at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home.
