Donald Leon Taylor Age 94, born November 17,1926 in Norwich, Ct to Leon Taylor and Elizabeth S. Taylor. He was a home town hero and had numerous articles in their local paper of his accomplishments. Donald sailed away July 4, 2021.
After serving this country for over 26 years, he settled in Poquoson and has lived here for almost 50 years. Donald loved to travel. Shortly after retirement, they got a sail boat and the motor yacht and traveled for almost 28 years up and down the inland waterway, to the Bahamas, accomplished what is known as the Great Circle loop up through the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi and back into the gulf and around to the east coast.
Donald loved his wife and children, spoiled his grandchildren, and treasured his great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years, Edna S. Taylor, he is survived by his sister, Marian Sautter; son, Donald L. Taylor Jr. and spouse Mary Taylor; daughter, Deborah Taylor Powell and spouse Richard G Powell; grandchildren, Gregory Taylor (Soojin), Russell Taylor (Kari), Jennifer Griffin (James), Amanda Holladay (Mark); great grandchildren, Fenton Taylor, Tristan Taylor, Thomas Holladay, Austin Griffin, Taylor Griffin, William Holladay, Matt Holladay, Kevin Taylor.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 10th at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Military honors to be held at Arlington National Cemetery 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Those wish to attend MUST arrive 45 minutes early to the administration parking lot assigned for Mr. Taylor's service. In lieu of flowers suggests donations to the DAV and/or your local SPCA.
PLEASE NOTE: Arlington National Cemetery has increased its security posture and is implementing 100% ID checks at all entrances. Effective immediately, all visitors 16 years of age and older (pedestrians, drivers and passengers) must present a valid photo identification upon entering the cemetery.
Visitors 18 years of age and older must present a valid U.S. state or federal government-issued photo identification for entry.
Visitors 16 and 17 years old who do not have a U.S. state or federal government-issued photo identification may present an official school-issued photo identification for entry.
Persons who are not U.S. citizens must present a valid passport or U.S. State Department-issued photo identification for entry.
