Edward Donald “Don” Blankenship, 85, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, December 23, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Glenna Blankenship. He is survived by his wife, Carole; son, Ed; daughter, Amy (Chris Kary); grandchildren, Kristen (Coltin), Zack, Gracie, Lilly, Aerika Sullivan, and great-grandson Casen.
Don was born in Danville, VA, and moved to Newport News when he was 13. He was a graduate of Warwick High School. Don was employed at the Newport News Shipyard where he met his wife Carole which he said was love at first sight. He was employed with Deepsea Venture and Eureka which gave him the opportunity to travel to many countries: Tahiti, Samoa, Africa, China, Poland, Tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territory to name a few.
Don enjoyed fishing, clamming, and crabbing, but the greatest joy was being with his children and grandchildren. He loved them with all his heart and had many wonderful memories. He was indeed a great husband, father, and grandfather.
The family will receive friend 4 – 5:30 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Emmaus Baptist Church Social Hall in the old sanctuary.
