Edward "Rick" Earl Bass

Edward "Rick" passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Born August 23, 1951 in Kenly, North Carolina, Rick had been a Newport News resident for the past 55 years. His passion was being a body repairman, a drywall man and he spent 20 years at Howmet Corp as a maintenance mechanic. He loved traveling, watching sports, photography, fishing, scuba diving, watching drag racing, and spending time with family.
Preceded in death by his mom, Janie Johnson; father, James Gray Bass; sister, Sandy House, aunt, Dorothy Weaver, Step-father, Art Johntson, uncles, Joseph "Bunk" Johnson and Dink Johnson, Rick is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Cynthia "Cindy" Bass; children, Melissa Martin (Wayne), Candie Mabey (John), and James Bass; grandchildren, Wayne Martin, Jr., Matt Martin, Chloe Bass, Ava Mabey and Rae Mabey; brother, Terry Bass (Yvette); niece, Sierra Bass; nephew, Bradley Bass as well as many other loving relative and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 20th at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home with a visitation immediately following until 4 p.m.
