Frank A. Taylor, Jr.

Frank A. Taylor Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at his home on June 4, 2026, surrounded by the family he spent a lifetime loving.  Born on July 23, 1943, F.A. was a lifelong native and resident of Poquoson, a place he called home from his very first breath to his last.

F.A. graduated from Poquoson High School in 1961 and went on to attend the Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School, where he began his career as an electrician built on craftsmanship, reliability, and hard work — qualities that defined everything he did.  But those who knew him best understood that his greatest work was never done on the job.  It was done at home, on the water, and around a table full of people he loved.

One of F.A.'s most treasured possessions was the Miss Esther, a boat he and his father built together in 1963.  For more than six decades, she carried him and eventually his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren across the waters he knew so well.  Time on that boat wasn't just recreation, it was how F.A. made memories, taught patience, and passed something of himself down through the generations.

A devoted Christian and lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, F.A.'s faith was the bedrock of his character.  It showed in the way he treated people, with generosity, steadiness, and quiet grace.  He didn't need to say much to make you feel cared for as his presence was enough.

For 63 years, he and the love of his life, Sherry, built something rare and beautiful together — a marriage, a home, a family that reflects the best of who he was.  His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren carry his warmth forward in ways he might never have fully known, but that all of them will feel for the rest of their lives.

F.A. is now peacefully reunited in heaven with his beloved son, Lemuel David, and his parents, Frank and Esther Taylor.

He is survived by his wife and greatest love, Sherry Taylor; his daughters, Vallie Hunt (Rick) and Debbie Taylor-Adams (Winston); his grandchildren, Amanda Pauls (John), Eric Hunt (Karen), Evan Hunt (Faith), Kristen Barber (David), Sami Taylor, Hannah Danial (Yousef), Aaron Taylor, and Sydney Jacobs (Chad); and 11 great-grandchildren who will grow up hearing stories of the man he was. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Graham; sisters-in-law, Jane Beimler and JoAnne Thorne; his beloved cat, Lucy; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly and will miss him deeply.

Visitation will be held at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, with a service immediately following at 1:00 pm.  Interment will take place at 3:00 pm Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, VA.

The family will receive relatives and friends at their home.  All are warmly invited to come share a memory, offer a kind word, and celebrate a life well and fully lived.
