George Bedford Hamann Obituary

George Bedford Hamann, 86, took his final bow, Sunday, August 28, 2022, after a courageous dance with prostate cancer that just would not let him lead. George was home enjoying fresh air, the smell of home cooked food, and visits from family and friends. He had the honor of his spiritual partner, Linda McQueen, and his fur babies, Twinkle and Sparkle, sharing their unfailing love with him throughout this challenging journey. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1954 and served his country in the United States Navy. George was formerly employed with Xerox as a Model Shop Supervisor and held various jobs as a handyman until his failing health. He was also an accomplished glass blower and made many of the fermentation tubes used in local wineries and gave some of his creative pieces as gifts to friends and family. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, white water rafting, and was well known as a fun-loving dancer in the art of Ballroom, Swing, Latin, Zydeco, and many more styles.
Preceded in death by his parents, August and Phyllis Hamann, and brother, Phillip Hamann, George will be missed beyond words by his life partner, Linda McQueen, and her extended family; sons, George “Tigger” Barry Hamann (Marie), Peter Hamann (Kristi), Scott Hamann (Kristen) and Todd Hamann, nine grandchildren; Stephen, Chris, Kellyn,  Alex, Benjamin, Nick, Katie, Nolan, Carson, and two great-grandchildren; Ayden and Colton; sisters, Eleanor Serio and Catherine Hamann, brother, Alan Hamann; several nieces and nephews, many other loving relatives, and dear friends.
A memorial gathering will be held November 5, 2:00-9:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 2:30 and dancing at 6:30, at the Olmsted Lodge in Highland Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to RocDog.org.
The family would like to thank the staff of Miller Funeral Home and Edward Carter with the University of Rochester Medical School Anatomy Program for their heartfelt guidance.
