Jack Montgomery Obituary

Jack Moore Montgomery, 71, passed away on December 12, 2024. Jack was born on July 1, 1953, and was a native and resident of Yorktown his entire life.

In his youth, Jack found a love for the outdoors as a Boy Scout. Some of his fondest childhood memories were those he made during a hiking trip in Philmont, New Mexico. His love for spending time outdoors never waned, and as a father, he often took his two sons camping and hiking and spent quite a few summers with them at Boy Scout summer camps. As a new grandfather, Jack loved spending time with his grandson, Mason, on the weekends in Colonial Williamsburg.

Jack was a skilled woodworker and made his living in construction. He began his career as a humble carpenter, and over the years worked hard to become the general manager for 22 years with a general contractor. He retired from his long career  in 2020.

Jack’s love of woodworking extended  beyond his career in construction. For many years, he put his work on display at various craft shows and festivals to sell his handcrafted toys, furniture, and other household items. He was an avid reader, and could often be found reading in his den, seated beside the bookshelves crafted by his brother, Dwight. Cycling became a passion of his later in life. And he enjoyed riding his bicycle each day. Throughout his life, he collected both stamps and matchbox cars, keeping his matchbox collection on display in his living room. Most evenings, he spent at least an hour watching wrestling, which he liked so much he even took his two sons to a live show at the Hampton Coliseum. Every summer, he opened his pool and spent each afternoon, weather permitting, soaking in the sunlight and spending quality time with his beloved wife, Cynthia.

Jack is reunited with his father, Randolph Montgomery; mother, Jacqueline Montgomery; and brothers, David Montgomery and Dwight Montgomery.

His memory is cherished by his loving wife, Cynthia Montgomery; two sons, Matthew Gordon Montgomery and wife Claiborne and Jackson Grady Montgomery; grandchildren, Mason Montgomery and Hayes Montgomery; brothers, Jonathan Montgomery and Randy Montgomery.
