Jerry Cagle, a lifelong Poquoson resident, passed away on June 5, 2025, just days before his 70th birthday. Born in Hampton, VA, he lived a life full of love and laughter. He was reunited in Heaven with his mother, Luarria, and brothers, Furman and Floyd “Doc” Cagle. After a brave two-year battle with esophageal cancer, Jerry passed peacefully in hospice care, with his family by his side and a smile on his face.
Knowing Jerry Cagle was truly one of life’s greatest blessings. He was a man of deep empathy, compassion, and quiet strength—always ready to listen, offer advice, or simply show up. A dedicated provider, Jerry worked tirelessly for his family while never missing a chance to be present for games, recitals, birthdays, and everyday moments. His bright smile, quick wit, and infectious laugh lit up every room and left lasting impressions on everyone he met.
Jerry’s love for his wife and soulmate, Cheryl, was unwavering—a true example of devotion. Even during his illness, his concern was always for her well-being, ensuring she found rest amid the demands of caregiving. His love, loyalty, and thoughtfulness endured until his very last breath, with every decision made in care of her future.
A creative soul, Jerry shared his passions for music, movies, and art with family and friends, often gifting handmade ornaments, custom birth announcements, and other heartfelt creations. He was a walking sports encyclopedia with a special love for Boston teams—even designing his own tattoos to represent them. And of course, his legendary sense of humor lives on through the pranks he loved to play, prompting many a laugh and the familiar phrase, “That was Jerry…”
Through countless treatments and hospital stays, Jerry’s faith never wavered. He left this world peacefully, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion. His impact will never fade, and his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Cheryl Cagle; daughter, Amanda Ramsey (Nick); son, Michael Cagle; and his beloved dog, Django. He also leaves behind his sisters, Georgia Scott and Gerlina Dugger (Aubrey); sister-in-law, Linda Tuculet (Don); brothers-in-law, Larry Holloway (Maryann) and David Holloway (Diane); grandson, Charlie Player; lifelong best friend, Jimmy Winder; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In his final days, Jerry fondly spoke of reuniting with dear friends and loved ones who passed before him, including Ronnie Bowers (Luttig), Tom Scott, Katie Tuculet, Dorothy Holloway, and many more who held a special place in his heart.
