John I. "Ike" Martin Obituary

John I. “Ike” Martin, 88, went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2026.   Born on September 18, 1937, Ike spent his life dedicated to his faith and blessing others.  He worked many businesses in the seafood industry to include harvesting, processing, and retail.  His love of baseball started in his youth playing for the American legion league and he was an unwavering super fan always cheering the Yankee’s.


He was predeceased by his parents, Harten and Florance Martin, first wife and mother of their children, Edna Powell Martin, his son Johnny, granddaughter Katie Jett, daughter in law Susie Frost Martin, brothers Harten Jr, Lemuel, and Ronald Martin.


Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years, Sue Garrett Martin, son Tony (Debbie), Jimmy (Cindy), Tina Freeman (Marvin), Jim Garrett, daughter in law Tracy Martin, sister Jane Matheny (Ronnie), Aunts Gloria Lindsay and Romona Diggs, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, close and loyal friend at his side daily, Richard McGilvary and his beloved four legged little girl Jewelee.  He also leaves behind a host of extended family including many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved as his own. 


A viewing will be held at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 between 6:00pm and 7:30pm.  Service will be held on Thursday, August 6th at 3pm, Poquoson Baptist Church, 283 Wythe Creek Road, Poquoson.


In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to GMC Scholarship and mission support 501c
