Joseph M. Cawley, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2022. He was a loving, fun, dedicated, hardworking husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, family member, and friend. He was born and raised in Ardsley, New York. He moved to Virginia after graduating from high school. He married Barbara McElheney Cawley on January 10, 1962. He was a resident of Poquoson, Virginia for 50 years where he built their home himself and they raised their children. Joe owned several service stations and an auto parts store and retired in 2003. He enjoyed retirement by spending time with his loving wife of 60 years and spoiling the grandkids. He also enjoyed working in his garage and his Kubota tractors. He loved having his family and friends around and the July 4th cookout and Christmas were his favorite traditions.
He is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Martin and Kathleen Cawley; brother, Mickey Cawley; and sister, May Mehrtens. His memory is cherished by his loving wife, Barbara Cawley; children, Joseph M. Cawley Jr. (Lori), and Sherri Cawley Kopczynski; grandchildren, Brandon Cawley (Tessa), Matt Cawley (Hunter), and Kristen Kopczynski; great-granddaughter, Kennedy May Cawley; and brother, Jack Cawley. He is cherished by many family members and friends. He will be missed deeply but the wonderful memories and traditions created will carry on.
