Joseph David Dickinson, a Poquoson resident, died peacefully on July 6, 2022, after a long struggle with dementia. He was born November 20, 1940 in New Haven, Connecticut, but grew up in Holbrook, Massachusetts, where he met his wife Janet in the 5th grade. After serving in the US Army, Joe earned a pilot’s license and then attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute. He retired from civil service after many years as an aeronautical engineer involved in helicopter research and development. Joe could fix anything and his Poquoson neighbors will remember often seeing an old car towed into his garage which would soon be back out on the road.
He is survived by his wife Janet; daughters Karen Kulpa (Chris) of Tabernash, Colorado, and Susan (Greg Peer) of Woodstock, Virginia; son Joe (Anna) of Hillston, Australia; and grandchildren Miles, Harper and Archer.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held in the social hall at Tabernacle Methodist Church from 2 to 4 on Saturday, July 16. The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care provided by the staff at Dominion Village of Poquoson. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
