Poquoson, Joseph “Roger” Hastings passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, March 6, 2023. He was born on May 17, 1939 on the kitchen table of his parent’s home in Amelia, Virginia. His family moved to Poquoson when he was a teenager where fell in love with and married his future wife of 65 years, Deanna. He graduated from Poquoson High School Class of 1956. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Russell Hastings & Nellie Virginia Wilson Hastings, his brother Douglas R. Hastings, and his wife Deanna W. Hastings.
Roger is survived by his son Roger Jr., daughter Karen Hastings, honorary daughter Heather Salvador, granddaughter Megan McDonald (Dan) and great grandson (Cameron). He is also survived by his sister Judy Allen Hannagan. Also, very special to Roger were his nephews, niece, and great nephews and great niece Aura. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson. He was also active with the Poquoson Meals on Wheels program for many years. Roger retired from Fort Eustis after 25 years of Civil Service. Roger was a dedicated and loving husband and wonderful father. He loved to play the guitar and sing blue grass and country songs. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 12th at 11 AM at Weston Cemetery in Poquoson. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Poquoson Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.
