Joyce Hardaway

Joyce Hardaway went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2025. She was born on November 9, 1944, in Poquoson, VA, and was a lifelong resident of Poquoson. Joyce was an elementary school teacher in Hampton, VA for over 35 years at Francis Asbury Elementary in Fox Hill.

Though she retired from teaching, her passion to inspire young children continued at the Poquoson Public Library, where she spent many more years working and volunteering. Joyce was a long-standing member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Poquoson. As a mother, she never missed her children’s sporting events and that continued into her time as a grandmother where she was regularly seen cheering on her six grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Beatrice Holloway, her loving husband of 54 years, Hank Hardaway, her brother, Harry Holloway and her sister, Margaret Roland. Joyce is survived by her nephew, Phillip Thomas, her son, Treye (wife Jody), and her daughter, Blair (husband Chris). Joyce was blessed with six grandchildren: Hailey, Hank and Harper (Hardaway). Payton, Reagan and Mary Madison (DuVal) as well as many extended family members.

Memorials may be given to Tabernacle United Methodist Church or Poquoson Public Library. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joyce’s life on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with a reception following.
