Kenneth K. Hopkins, 64, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022, due to heart failure. A native of Poquoson, Ken was born March 21, 1958, to the late Edward R. and Lydia Hopkins, Sr., and he had been a Newport News resident for the past 12 years.
Ken was the refrigeration facilities supervisor at High Linter Foods for 16 years. Previously, he held a similar role at the Seaford Scallop Company, where he worked for more than 20 years, including many summers overseeing operations in Seward, Alaska. Ken was an avid reader and enjoyed staying up to date on current events. He was an early adopter of technology and always had the latest gadgets. A great joy of his life was spending time with family, especially visits from his son and granddaughters. Ken enjoyed spending time on the water and loved boating, fishing, and clamming. He was a fan of NASCAR and local racing and cherished the time he spent on the race team for Danny Edwards Jr. at Langley Speedway.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edward “Butch” Hopkins, Jr., Ken is survived by his son, Justin Hopkins; twin sister, Kimberly Deibler, and his brothers, Jerry, and Doug Hopkins; four grandchildren, Indiana, Scarlet, Keely, and Charlotte as well as many other loving relatives and dear friends.
A memorial service and celebration of Ken’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 24th at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home.
