Kenneth "Ken" Gordon Smoker, 83, set sail beyond the shore on Sunday, May 9, 2021. His sunrise began October 9, 1937 and he had lived in Poquoson for over 40 years until he moved to Newport News. Ken owned and operated an electrical business for 60 years. The happiest times of Ken's life were spent fishing with his sons Michael and Steven. Many hours were enjoyed off the shores of Virginia and North Carolina on The Chesapeake Bay and off Cape Hatteras. He met many good people out on the water who became lifelong friends.
Ken is preceded in death by his son, Steven "Steve" Todd Smoker. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret Smoker; his son, Michael "Mike" Smoker and his wife Judith; sisters; Mary-Ann and husband Bill of Williamsburg, VA, Rhoda and husband Jerry of Crystal River, FL; brothers, Dan and wife Doris of York County, VA, and Vernon and wife Carolynn of Mitchell, GA; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren as well as many, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
The family request that no flowers be given do to severe allergies and donations may be made to the Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association. Both charities are listed below.
