Larry Firman went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2026, at the age of 72.
Larry was a native of Poquoson and grew up “on the Ridge.” He graduated from Poquoson High School in 1971 and went on to serve his community as a Deputy Sheriff with York County for more than 20 years. After retiring, Larry began a lawn care and landscaping business, where he continued working outdoors and doing what he loved.
Larry took great pride in his yard, which was truly his pride and joy. He also enjoyed woodworking and refinishing old pieces, bringing them back to life with care and precision. Every piece had to be just right. That same attention to detail showed in one of his greatest treasures, his 1970 Mach I Mustang, which he dearly loved. Muscle cars were definitely his thing.
One of Larry’s favorite things was having family and friends over for cookouts, sitting outside, talking, laughing, and sharing a cold one or two. Most of all, Larry loved his family more than they could ever know.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Essie Firman; his sisters, Patti Healy and Mona Lisa; and his brother, David “Buster” Firman.
Left to cherish in his memory is the love of his life, his wife, Cindy Firman of 42 years; his sons, Craig Firman and his wife, Sara, and Scott Firman and his wife, Crystal; and his beloved grandchildren, Logan Firman and Sophia Firman. He is also survived by his brothers, Tracy Firman and his fiancé, Bonnie, and Sandy Firman and his wife, Staci; his sisters, Barbara Holloway and Marion Owen and her husband, Charlie; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
As a family, we take comfort in knowing that Larry is in Heaven, finally free from the pain and challenges he endured over the past 12 years. Time and again, he faced every obstacle placed before him with determination, courage, and strength, refusing to give up no matter how difficult the road became. He fought his hardest this time as well, but we know he was tired and ready to go home. Through it all, he remained an inspiration to those who loved him. He was, and always will be, our hero.
Larry will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his craftsmanship, his pride in a job well done, his resilience, his laughter, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 12pm – 1pm, with a service immediately following at 1pm.
Following the service, the family will receive relatives and friends at their home, located at 82 Hudgins Road, Poquoson, Virginia 23662. Family and friends are invited to join them in celebrating Larry’s life and sharing memories together.
