Lawrence “Butch” Tilden Crawford Obituary

Butch, 77, passed away at home on February 22, 2021. He was born February 19, 1944 in Hampton, Virginia to Thelma and Lawrence Yelton Crawford. He graduated from Poquoson High School in 1963, and entered the Air Force that same year. Butch served as an Aircraft Mechanic in the Philippines & Vietnam until 1967. Butch met and married the love of his life, Ann Johnson of Bradbury Heights, Maryland in 1990. They have resided in Poquoson with their “furry” children for the last 30 years.

Butch worked for Casey Chevrolet for 45 years. He worked as a Master Mechanic, Service Manager, and Apprentice School Instructor. Even after his retirement, he continued to work part-time for Casey. Butch was a car enthusiast. He built and worked on many classic cars and hot rods in his home garage. He belonged to the Poquoson Classic Car Club, traveling to many shows along the east coast.

Butch also loved to play golf with many longtime friends. He seldom turned down a friend when asked to play, and was said to have a great golf swing. Butch was a member of the Poquoson Scouts Golf Club and Olde Hamptowne Golf Club.

Butch is survived by his wife, Meredith “Ann” Crawford; siblings Peggy Linthicum, Wanda Wallace, and Walter Crawford (Ava); nieces & nephews; Lisa Dicrisi (Dan), Tim Linthicum (Janet), Jody Linthicum (Elizabeth), Cindy Wallace (Vangie), Johnny Wallace, Janelle Bolt, Christopher Crawford (April), Tamara Long (Charlie), Lance Johnson (Stephanie); and numerous cousins, great nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by Travis Wallace (Tommie), and Stephanie McHale.

Butch was always quick with a smile, a story, and a laugh.  He was a truly humble, giving, and tender-hearted man who had many lifelong friends. He loved his wife and his family fiercely, and was adored by all who knew him.

A celebration of Butch's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or to a charity of your choice.
