Lawrence "Everett" Hess Obituary

Lawrence "Everett" Hess, 72, went to be with his Lord and savior Thursday, January 19, 2023, after an illness.  Everett was a native of Richlands, Virginia and a Poquoson resident for the past 37 years. He was born to the late Carlus and Elizabeth Hunnell Hess on April 19, 1950.
Everett graduated from Richlands High School and then earned his machinist credentials from Southwest Virginia Community College.  He was a coal miner for 13 years where he worked with underground explosives, and as an electrician, mechanic and mining foreman. He then worked for Dominion Terminal Associates Coal Piers in Newport News Va. for 22 years. He grew up on a farm, always helping his dad and then had his own farm.  He had all the normal farm life but also grew and sold tobacco crops.
Everett was a loving and devoted husband, loving and supportive father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved to hunt, fish, and enjoyed taking his family camping and boating at Holston Lake for most of the summer.  He was a member of Keep The Promise Ministries in Poquoson, Va. and loved his church family dearly.  He was a member of Edgehill Hunt Club where he attended with his son and hunting buddy, Greg.  He loved his hunt club family. He loved going line dancing and two-stepping with his wife along the Eastern seaboard and always enjoyed taking her to the Country Fan Fair annually. He had a passion for high school and college sports and could tell you every score, player and location for the past 72 years. He was a soft hearted, kind, awesome Christian man who loved his Lord and savior.  He had a great sense of humor usually with corny dad jokes and was quick witted with replies that always made you smile.  He also had a soft spot for all children and loved his dog, Max.
Everett is preceded in death by his loving wife, Karen Hale Hess, parents, Carlus and Elizabeth Hunnell Hess, his brother, Mack Lynn "Mutt" Hess, and infant brother, Andrew Edward Hess, great grandson, Amari Tucker, and his favorite dog, Maxie Bear.
He is survived by his son, Greg Hess and wife Sheila and his daughter Gail Cooke and husband Randy, grandson, Austin Tucker and great grandson, Avery Tucker, brother, Robert Hess, sister, Peggy Kelly and husband John, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the staff from Riverside Cancer Treatment Center and all the assistance from Poquoson Fire and Rescue. Also, thanks to Dr. Jesus Lizarzaburu for all his many years of care.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
