Littleton Ludlow Little, Jr. (Lit), 82, died on January 27, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born on August 27, 1943, was a native of Atlanta, GA, and resident of Poquoson, VA for 42 years.
Lit will be remembered first and foremost as a family man. He would rather have been at home with his “girls”, or out in the garage fixing something, than anywhere else in the world.
Lit graduated from the University of Georgia where he completed the ROTC program before commissioning. He met his wife, Dot, in the college choir, but it wasn’t until a mutual friend invited Lit to sing in the church choir where Dot was the organist, that they fell in love and eventually married.
Lit retired as a Major in the United States Air Force after 21 years. He worked in the Strategic Air Command (SAC), specifically in the National Emergency Airborne Command Post (NEACP), as the Chief Communications Officer.
Lit was a member of Hampton Baptist Church for 51 years. During that time, he was a faithful member of the Sanctuary Choir as well as serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Since he was stationed at Langley Air Force Base twice, Hampton Baptist Church was where Lit and Dot made most of their lifelong friends.
Lit loved anything that he could do on the water. He enjoyed water skiing, family boating trips, annual weeks at the beach and most especially, fishing. He was an avid reader and bible scholar and was always interested in learning something new. His love of music started at an early age and he sang in church, school, and community choirs throughout his life.
Lit was preceded in death by parents, Littleton and Mary Jo Little; brother, Jack Little; and in-laws, A.O. and Mae Duncan. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Duncan Little; daughters, Laura Little Martindale (Jim) and Alystra Little Barefoot (Jeff); grandchildren, Ben, Nick, and Zach Martindale and Abby and Emma Barefoot; brother, Joe Little (Kacki), sister-in-law, Cindy Bainbridge, brother-in-law, Bob Duncan (Rita), and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of LIfe will be held at Hampton Baptist Church on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 2:00 pm, with a reception immediately following at the Hampton Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hampton Baptist Church Endowment Fund with a designation to the Music Ministry.
