Lt Col George Wolford Obituary

Lt. Col George F. Wolford Jr., 89, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away December 30, 2020, from complications related to Parkinson's Disease.

Fred was born on November 17, 1931, in San Diego, California, to the Late George F. Wolford Sr. and Evelee Watson Wolford. Fred as he was known by most, attended and graduated from Punahou High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the University of Omaha, in Omaha, Nebraska. He then joined the United States Air Force, and when stationed at Langley Air Force base, he met Gloria Sue Garner and they married on February 13, 1954, at Langley Chapel in Hampton, Virginia.

George/Fred had a long career in the United States Air Force serving his country for more than 25 years. He was a Navigator by training, who earned many commendations and served tours in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring from the Air Force, he went on to teach at Poquoson High School and had a long successful second career in Real Estate working with Nachman Realty/Century 21 as a Broker and trainer and an associate broker with Bel-Key Properties, Inc. He was a devoted member of the Scottish Rite Temple of the Masonic Lodge in Poquoson.

Fred was a curious, gentle, humble soul, who loved to explore, travel, play golf and read. He always had a great story to share and never met a stranger, he loved to talk and share his life with others. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gloria G. Wolford of Vero Beach, Florida; Son, F. Cole Wolford (John Crosby) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Daughter Penny S. Wolford of Poquoson, Virginia, and many loved family and friend around the world.

A Memorial/Military service will be held graveside at Peninsula Memorial Park, in Newport News, Virginia at 3 pm, on June 19, 2021, and a Celebration of Life to follow at the home of Penny S. Wolford in Poquoson, Virginia.
