Luther Knaub Obituary

Luther N. Knaub, loving husband and father, 93, passed away on February 9, 2024. Luther was a native of Marysville, Pennsylvania and a Poquoson resident for the last 52 years.

Luther served our country honorably as a Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force for 26 years retiring in 1974. As a flight engineer in the USAF, he flew 29 bombing missions over North Korea and was awarded the Air Medal and Korean Service Medal with 2 Battle Stars. He transitioned into flying C-141 and C-130 cargo airplanes – flying to World Wide Troop missions and missions in South East Asia – NATO support and humanitarian relief in the Belgian Congo uprising. Luther’s impressive military career with the Air Force ended after he retired in 1974. His total flying time with the Air Force accumulated to 16,383 hours and he was a Million Miler. Luther also worked for 25 years for the United States Department of the Army, later retiring in 2002. He was an accident-free private pilot for over 50 years and received the Wright Brothers Award. In his leisure time, Luther loved skiing and flying.

He was a man who was loved by his family and friends. Luther was kind, considerate, and non-judgmental. He will be missed more than words can express. We hope he is flying with the angels.

Luther is reunited with his parents and 7 siblings.

His memory is cherished by his loving wife of 57 years, Alice Knaub; and his son, Jim Knaub and wife Paula.
