Martha Ann Jenkins Boyer, from Youngstown Ohio, passed away on December 27th, 2023, just two months after celebrating her 99th birthday with her extended family. She lived a full life and was so many things to many people – wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and for all, a best friend.
Martha met the love of her life, Merle Sheldon Boyer at a USO event after WWII and they married in 1948. Widowed much too early in 1982, Martha changed her life plans and helped raise each of her 11 grandchildren, willing to travel to wherever she was needed. She was always looking out for others, lending a listening ear, and giving hugs, support and love for everyone. She was an extremely positive and compassionate person who lived not just for her happiness, but for the happiness of others.
Martha loved life and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Always up for any adventure, she thoroughly appreciated and loved everything she did. A connoisseur of crab cakes, fried pickles, white cake and Giannios chocolate, every meal was the best she had ever had; every trip was the best she had ever taken. She leaves behind an amazing legacy and a lifetime of memories that will forever be in our hearts.
Nothing gave Martha greater joy than time spent with family. She is survived by her children: Sheldon Boyer (Brenda), Evan Boyer, Gail Harker (Craig) and Donald Boyer (Carol); ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
She was predeceased by her husband Merle Boyer, grandson Matthew Harker, mother and father Martha and Evan Jenkins, sisters Mabel Irwin and Ruth Bartholomy, and brothers Wilbur and Ross.
Martha’s family expresses our profound gratitude to the Hamilton Assisted Living facility in Yorktown, VA for the exceptional and loving care and kindness provided to our mother. She was well taken care of and enjoyed herself and all the scheduled activities (we even attended and enjoyed several events). The staff handled her end-of-life with compassion, honored her wishes, and provided us comfort during this difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held in Northeast Ohio at a time and place to be determined. In lieu of flowers and in her memory, always be kind, have a positive attitude, and fully embrace life with an adventurous spirit.
