Martha “Karen” Hess, 72, went to be with her Lord and savior Thursday, July 21, 2022. A native of Richlands, Virginia, and a Poquoson resident for the past 36 years, Karen was born to the late Troy and Virginia Hale on July 8, 1950. Over the years Karen was a bus driver, sports team mom, cheerleading coach, and a housewife who helped operate the family farm. She held several jobs here on the peninsula over the years and was a huge impact to all. She also was a huge supporter at all sporting events for her grandson and teammates. She loved her church, Keep The Promise Ministries, her church family and was affectionately known as the “KTP Momma”. She was in charge the Helping Hands Ministry at KTP. She loved to bake and cook for all.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Virginia Hale; brothers, Jimmy and Raymond Hale and her great-grandson, Amari Tucker. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Everett Hess; children, Greg Hess and his wife Sheila and Gail Cooke and husband Randy; grandson, Austin Tucker and great-grandson, Avery Tucker; siblings, Shirley Hampton and husband Homer, and Ronnie Hale and wife Barbara all of Sevierville, TN .as well as many other loving relatives and dear friends.
Services will be held both locally and in Richlands. A local funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 27th at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, Virginia by Pastor Buddy Chapman a graveside service will be help 1 p.m. Friday, July 29th in Greenhills Memorial Gardens, Cedar Bluff, Virginia.
