Marvin L. Mitchell, 86, was called home on January 3, 2021 after complications from a stroke. Born on August 16, 1934, Marvin was a native on Newport News and a resident of Poquoson for the last 48 years. He retired from working on the railroad in 1996, went on to work for M.L. Mitchell and sons retiring in 2004, then worked as a driver for Casey Chevrolet retiring in 2015 and finally worked as a driver for O’Reilly Auto Parts up until 2020. Marvin was enlisted in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He enjoyed working, which was a big part of his life, he loved to fish in his younger years and was a huge fan of NASCAR as a Dale Earnhardt fan.
Marvin is preceded in rest by his mother, Mattie Herndon and his stepfather, Joseph Herndon.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia Mitchell; two sons, Michael Mitchell (Heather) and Gregory Mitchell (Donna) of Poquoson; daughter, Deborah Mitchell of Gloucester; grandchildren, Cody & Joshua, Keirsten Sprohar (Michael).
Due to COVID restrictions services will take place privately.
