Mary “Fonnie” Barr Obituary

Mary “Fonnie” Holloway Barr, 83, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away on Tuesday, August 29th, 2023.  After graduating from Poquoson High School in 1958, Mary worked at NASA until leaving to get married and start a family.  When she returned to the workforce, she worked Civil Service for the Army.  After retirement, she opened the Martin-Wilson House, which was an antique shop as well as a bed & breakfast.  This allowed her to combine her love of antiquing along with her enjoyment of meeting new people.

Mary loved spending time with her large family and many friends.  She also enjoyed researching and writing about family history.  Those who knew her, knew that she never met a stranger.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Emma and Arthur Vaden Holloway Sr., brothers A.V. “Binks” Holloway and Robert Floyd Holloway; sisters, Ellamae Holloway Hall, Sue Gorde, Betty Holloway Watkins, and Faith Holloway Joye.  She is survived by her daughters Amy Carol Brumm ( Kip ) and Leigh Paige Barr; sister Peggy Holloway Harris; grandchildren Trent Mitchell Brumm ( Sophia ), Kellyn McKenzie Brumm and Connor Ramon Brumm; and great grandson Logan Maverick Brumm.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2:00 PM at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson.  Scattering of Mary’s ashes will be at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in her memory be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
