Michael Joseph Matzeder

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Matzeder, age 60, on Thursday April 30, 2026, from Pancreatic Cancer. 

Mike was born on December 16, 1965, to Major Clarence John (Jack) Matzeder and Donna June (Nunn) Matzeder.  He was a native of Fort Knox, Kentucky but made Poquoson his home for most of his life.  

Mike was man of few words, but when he spoke you wanted to listen.  He was quick witted and fun to be around.  He loved being outdoors, fishing and listening to music.  As a lifelong “deadhead” he attended dozens of Grateful Dead concerts.  Mike was well known in the local electrical community for his work ethic and expertise; during his 38-year electrical career he owned and operated his own company and did extensive project consulting jobs.  He was most recently working at Managed Generator Services. 

Mike married in 1987 and is survived by his wife Jodi Matzeder and daughter Jennifer Matzeder (Christopher Purvis). He is also survived by his mother, Donna Matzeder and his siblings; Mark Matzeder, Suzanne Schultz (Stan), Michelle Matzeder, Lisa Matzeder, and Matthew Matzeder (Nadja), three nieces and five nephews.  As well as his mother-in-law Bernice Baynes.

No formal services are scheduled at this time.  The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
