Mickey Firman Graham, 78, born November 17, 1944, passed away at home on May 22 surrounded by his family. He was the youngest of 8 children, born to Capt. John Aaron Graham, Sr. and Mrs. Earsie Lavenia Graham (Mrs. Hurse) to most. He was born and raised in Poquoson. He was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Poquoson is where he met, married and lived with the love of his life, Esther Kay Graham (Firth).
Mickey was a lifelong waterman and worked as a commercial fisherman until health conditions caused him to partially retire. He then worked part time for Ballard Fish and Oyster Company for several years. He was forced into full retirement due to a cancer battle that was eventually won. During the time following, you could find Mickey at one of his favorite watering holes in the city. He was an early riser and would go meet the fellas at Owens Marina or George’s for “coffee” most mornings. Though a man of few words, he loved his family deeply.
Worsening health conditions and losing Esther Kay after 55 years of marriage was devastating. Mickey continued to live a quiet life with his family. After a long stay in the hospital and the love and support of his family, he continued the battle with his health at home until the end.
Mickey is reunited with his parents; his brothers William Waverly Graham, Samuel Cornell Graham, Arthur James Graham; sisters, Melvin Graham Bunting and Matilda Graham Page.
His memory is cherished by his daughter, Michele Graham Evans (Joe “Weasel” Breeden), grandson, Charles Brandon Evans; great-granddaughter, Emily Kay Evans; siblings, John Aaron Graham, Jr. of Poquoson, Elda Ann Hooper (CJ) of Florida; very special sisters, brother in law nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 1:00PM with a service immediately following. The burial will take place at Parklawn Wood Cemetery.
