January 3, 1935 ~ October 14, 2020 (age 85)

Obituary

Patricia Ann Patt (Cooney), 85, passed away peacefully with family by her side at her home in Poquoson, VA on October 14, 2020.  Pat was born on January 3, 1935 to Bernard and Anna Mae “Mae” Cooney (Foley) in Chicago, IL. The youngest of three siblings, Pat cherished her enduring friendships with her Sister, Lois (Ralis) and brother, Bernard “Bernie” who both preceded her in death. She was exceedingly close to her mother who taught her to love deeply. She married her husband William (Bill) in 1959 and they spent the next 60 years celebrating every joy and accomplishment in their family’s life while bolstering each other through the challenging times and heartaches, including the loss of their eldest child William (Bill). They were lifelong residents of Chicago and its suburbs, including Elmhurst, IL, where they lovingly raised their four children, William, Brian, Cathleen (Boyke) and Colleen (Caterine). Pat shared a passion for travel near and wide with Bill, and enjoyed dining at their favorite restaurants, gardening, reading, sewing, and caring for her many treasured pets, as well the menagerie of backyard wildlife. But mostly she took pleasure in spending time with her family and friends, including her children and their spouses/ significant others (Jan, Brian and Tony), her cherished grandchildren: Amanda, Kevin, Jason, Ryan, Daniel, Connor, Joseph, Emma, Samuel and Grace, as well as her many special in-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family members, and loyal friends. Pat loved to have fun, whether playing games, laughing (especially at her own jokes) or just being silly.
Pat’s varied career included secretarial work, healthcare, and insurance sales, but it was her last occupation as a real estate agent (Schiller Real Estate) where she found her special niche.
Working beside her husband Bill, Pat excelled at finding many families their perfect home.
Brian, Cathy, and Colleen would like to express their love and appreciation to the following organizations and individuals for their excellent and devoted care of Patricia, and for their kind support of our family over these past several years: Beth Klug, MD and the team at Riverside Brentwood Medical Center, Family Medicine; Riverside Hospice; Father Michael Joly of Saint Joan of Arc parish; and the wonderful team at Riverside Private Duty, especially the compassionate and professional caregivers, many of whom also cared for Bill until his passing last year, and who have become part of our family. A special thank you goes to Colleen’s husband Tony who did whatever was required to make sure Pat and Bill felt welcome and cared for over the past four years, and who was a bottomless well of physical and emotional support for their daughter.
A Celebration of Patricia’s life will be planned for early summer near Elmhurst. Information will be sent in early 2021.
